Capturing just a part of your screen can save time and make your communication more precise. Both Windows and Mac offer built-in ways to do this without needing any extra software. Here’s how you can take a partial screenshot on each platform:
On Windows
Windows includes a simple and effective built-in tool called the Snipping Tool (or Snip & Sketch on newer versions). Here’s how to use it:
- Press
Windows + Shift + S - The screen will gray out and your cursor will turn into a crosshair.
- Click and drag to select the area you want to capture.
- Once selected, the screenshot is copied to your clipboard.
- You can now paste it into any application using
Ctrl + Vor by right-clicking and selecting Paste.
This method is great for quickly sharing only the information you want without editing afterward.
On Mac
macOS also makes it easy to capture screenshots with a few different options:
- Capture the full screen:
PressShift + Command + 3. - Capture part of the screen:
PressShift + Command + 4, then drag to select the desired area. - Capture a specific window:
PressShift + Command + 4, then hit Space, and click on the window you want. - Copy a screenshot to the clipboard:
HoldControlwhile using any of the combinations above.
All screenshots on Mac are saved to your desktop by default unless you’re copying them directly to the clipboard.
