First Touch Signals
A pullback trading system that signals the first touch of a moving average acting as support or resistance.
Overview
First Touch Signals is built on the idea that moving averages often act as areas of support and resistance. It plots signals, targets, and stops based on a moving average of your choice.
The trend is established once price holds above or below the moving average for a minimum number of bars, and a signal is then initiated on the first touch of that moving average, marking a potential pullback entry with the trend.
The indicator is highly customizable around your experience with moving averages and chart types, and it integrates with Signal Entry Orders for semi-automated execution.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is First Touch Signals and how does it work in NinjaTrader 8?
First Touch Signals is a NinjaTrader 8 pullback trading system that uses a moving average of your choice as dynamic support or resistance. Once price holds above or below the moving average for a set number of bars to confirm the trend, it plots a signal on the first touch back to that average, marking a potential pullback entry with the trend along with target and stop levels.
Who is the First Touch Signals indicator best for?
First Touch Signals is built for traders who use moving averages as support and resistance and want to enter pullbacks in the direction of the trend. It is highly customizable around your experience with moving averages and chart types, with filters for bar count, time windows, and a higher-time-frame secondary trend, making it suitable for both discretionary and rules-based traders.
Does First Touch Signals work with NinjaTrader 8 and support semi-automated execution?
Yes, First Touch Signals is a NinjaTrader 8 desktop indicator that runs on standard NT8 chart types. It integrates with Signal Entry Orders so you can take its first-touch pullback signals through semi-automated order execution rather than placing every entry, target, and stop manually.
What makes First Touch Signals different from a basic moving average crossover indicator?
Unlike a simple crossover, First Touch Signals only triggers on the first pullback touch of a moving average after the trend is confirmed by a minimum number of bars, which targets cleaner with-trend entries. It also layers in bar count, time-window, and secondary higher-time-frame trend filters, plus ATR-based target and stop levels, so each signal comes with a complete trade plan.
Can I customize the moving average and filters in First Touch Signals?
Yes, First Touch Signals lets you set the moving average period (such as 8, 14, 20, 50, or 200) and pick the type from DEMA, EMA, HMA, SMA, TMA, or WMA. You can further refine signals with a minimum and maximum bar count filter, up to three allowed time windows, a secondary higher-time-frame trend filter, and ATR multipliers that define target and stop loss levels.
