What is the CCI indicator and how does it work in NinjaTrader?
The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) is an oscillator that measures how far price has moved from its average, to help identify trends and possible entry and exit points. The Best CCI Indicator plots the CCI line in NinjaTrader 8 against levels at 200, 100, 0, -100 and -200. Traders read the line against those levels to find areas to enter or exit the market.
Is there a CCI indicator with alerts for NinjaTrader 8?
Yes. The Best CCI Indicator can alert you by sound, with an entry in NinjaTrader's Alerts log, and by email, so you do not have to watch the chart all day. It can also highlight the chart or the indicator panel when the CCI line moves above or below a level you set, which makes a reading beyond 200 or -200 easy to spot at a glance.
Does the CCI indicator show buy and sell signals in NinjaTrader?
Yes. By default the Best CCI Indicator draws a buy arrow when the CCI drops below -200 and a sell arrow when it rises above 200. You can instead signal when it moves back out of those levels or turns while beyond them. It can color the price bars and the chart background by the CCI trend or signal, and the same signals drive its alerts and Signal Entry Orders, an Enhanced Chart Trader module sold separately.
Can I use the CCI on a higher time frame in NinjaTrader?
Yes. The Multi Time Frame feature lets you add the Best CCI Indicator to any chart window and choose a secondary data feed for its calculations. For example, you can watch a 1 minute chart while the CCI is calculated from 5 minute bars, so you see the higher time frame reading without opening another chart.
Can I trade automatically from CCI signals in NinjaTrader?
You can semi-automate it. The Best CCI Indicator works with Signal Entry Orders, an Enhanced Chart Trader module sold separately. Signal Entry Orders submits an entry order when a signal occurs on the bar close, using the account, quantity and ATM strategy already set on the Enhanced Chart Trader panel. You arm it with a button, so you decide when it can trade.
How is it different from NinjaTrader's built-in CCI indicator?
NinjaTrader's built-in CCI plots the line and its levels. The Best CCI Indicator keeps that and adds buy and sell signals, colored price bars and chart background, highlighting when the CCI passes a level you set, multi time frame calculations, sound and email alerts, and a link to Signal Entry Orders for semi-automated entries.
