Why “Configure” Is Missing From Your NinjaTrader Connections Menu
You open the Control Center, click Connections, and the Configure option is simply not there. No error, no warning, just a menu that will not let you add or edit a connection. It is one of the most common things new NinjaTrader 8 installs do, and it is not a broken installation.
The cause is a single unticked checkbox
NinjaTrader hides the Configure option when Multi-Provider mode is switched off. Multi-Provider mode is what allows the platform to hold more than one connection definition at a time, and with it disabled NinjaTrader assumes you have nothing to configure.
The setting is not in the Connections menu itself, which is why people hunt for it and give up.
How to get Configure back
- In the Control Center, go to Tools, then Settings.
- Open the General tab.
- Tick the Multi-Provider checkbox.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Close NinjaTrader completely and reopen it.
The restart matters. The checkbox alone does not repaint the menu, and a good number of people tick it, look straight back at the Connections menu, see nothing, and untick it again. Reopen the platform and Configure will be sitting at the bottom of the Connections dropdown.
If Configure still does not appear
Two things are worth checking before you assume something is wrong with the install.
First, confirm the setting actually saved. Reopen Tools, Settings, General and look at the checkbox again. If it has reverted, NinjaTrader was not able to write to its configuration, which usually means the platform is running without permission to write to its own Documents folder, or a cloud sync tool such as OneDrive is holding those files.
Second, check your system clock. NinjaTrader validates a good deal against time, and a machine whose clock has drifted or is set to the wrong time zone will behave strangely in ways that look unrelated to time.
What Multi-Provider mode actually does
It is worth knowing what you have just switched on, because it is the same setting that sits underneath a much larger limitation.
Multi-Provider mode lets NinjaTrader hold several connection definitions. It does not, on its own, let you run several of them at the same time. In particular, NinjaTrader marks its Rithmic connections as one at a time, so you can save Apex and Bulenox and Tradeify side by side and still find that connecting the second one drops the first.
That is a separate platform restriction, and it is the one that catches out traders running more than one funded account. A quick sanity check on your firm
While you are in the Configure dialog, it is worth making sure you are adding the right connection type at all. Not every prop firm uses Rithmic, and picking a Rithmic entry for a Tradovate firm will fail in a way that looks like a credentials problem. Our connection guides list which feed each firm runs on.
