How to Connect OneUp Trader to NinjaTrader (Rithmic)
OneUp Trader connects to NinjaTrader over Rithmic, and it has one requirement that catches out anyone who has set up a different firm before: R|Trader Pro has to be running and connected first, and plug-in mode has to be switched on rather than off. Get that the wrong way round and nothing comes up.
What you need before you start
- Your OneUp Trader welcome email, which carries the Rithmic username and password.
- Rithmic’s R|Trader Pro, downloaded and installed.
- A NinjaTrader broker licence key enabled for NinjaTrader Brokerage. One key covers every account; you do not need one per firm.
- NinjaTrader 8 Desktop on Windows.
Connecting OneUp Trader to NinjaTrader
Get your Rithmic credentials from OneUp Trader
They arrive in the welcome email. They are not your OneUp Trader website login.
Install and connect R|Trader Pro first
This step is not optional and it is not last. NinjaTrader relies on plug-in mode to share the feed with R|Trader Pro, so R|Trader Pro must be open and connected before NinjaTrader will work. If you have read elsewhere that R|Trader Pro should be closed, that advice belongs to a different firm.
Download the NinjaTrader Desktop platform
NinjaTrader 8 Desktop, from NinjaTrader’s own site. The web platform will not do this.
Enable Multi-Provider
Tools, then Settings, then General. Tick Multi-Provider, apply, and restart NinjaTrader. Without it the Configure option does not appear in the Connections menu at all.
Add the Rithmic connection
Control Center, Connections, Configure. Select Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage and click add. Rename it to OneUp Trader so you can tell it apart later.
Enter your credentials and choose the System
Type the username and password rather than pasting them. Set the System to Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago) for an evaluation account, and tick plug-in mode for market data. Restart NinjaTrader after saving; the plug-in setting does not take effect in the current session.
Select your new connection
Connections, then OneUp Trader.
If it will not connect
Before anything else, check that R|Trader Pro is connected and not merely open. On this firm that is the cause more often than everything below combined.
- Logon failed. Nearly always a trailing space copied with the credential, the wrong System entry for your account stage, or an agreement still unsigned in the provider portal. Worked through in Rithmic logon failed.
- Connected, but no accounts. Usually account status at OneUp Trader rather than anything in NinjaTrader. See no accounts were found.
- No Configure option. Multi-Provider is switched off. See why Configure is missing.
- Connects, then drops. Something else is holding a Rithmic session — R|Trader Pro elsewhere, a second machine, a VPS. See session count exceeded.

Can I run OneUp Trader next to another prop firm?
Not on the Rithmic route, not out of the box. NinjaTrader marks its Rithmic connections as one at a time, so connecting a second Rithmic firm displaces the first. NinjaTrader Desktop connects one Rithmic account at a time. Unlimited Prop Firm Connections lets you keep several connected at the same time.
A Rithmic session cap still applies per login on top of that, and no add-on can raise it.
Do I need a trade copier as well?
Only if you want one order to reach several accounts. Having the connections open at the same time is what makes copying possible; the copying itself is a separate job, handled by the trade copier.
Is the website login the same as the connection login?
No, and this is the most common setup mistake. NinjaTrader needs the Rithmic credentials OneUp Trader issued you, not the username and password you use on their website.
