The Best Free NinjaTrader Add-Ons to Try First, and How to Vet Them
NinjaTrader add-ons are mostly third-party tools written in NinjaScript, such as indicators, strategies, bar types and add-on windows, that you import into NinjaTrader 8 Desktop. The best free ones to try first are community scripts from NinjaTrader’s User App Share, whose Most Popular list includes VWAP and Renko scripts for NinjaTrader 8, and free versions of paid add-ons, ours included. Before you import any of them, check that NinjaTrader 8 doesn’t already include the tool, that the add-on is built for NinjaTrader 8, who supports it, and how you would remove it.

This guide is for NinjaTrader 8 Desktop users who want to try free add-ons before paying for anything. NinjaTrader’s NinjaScript documentation says NinjaScript runs only in the NinjaTrader 8 desktop application on Windows, so add-ons don’t run in NinjaTrader Web or the mobile apps (checked October 2026). What are NinjaTrader add-ons?
A NinjaTrader 8 add-on is software written in NinjaScript, NinjaTrader’s C# framework, and most add-ons run inside the platform as indicators, strategies or extra windows. NinjaTrader’s help guide uses the word for the third-party indicators, strategies and apps you import, and NinjaTrader says there are thousands of them (checked October 2026). NinjaTrader also sells some add-ons of its own, such as its Multi-Broker add-on, but this guide is about third-party ones.

Where to find free third-party NinjaTrader add-ons
NinjaTrader’s User App Share. NinjaTrader’s Ecosystem site hosts the User App Share, which it describes as “100s” of free-to-use apps and tools built by the user community (checked October 2026). Each listing shows the date it was added, its download count and whether it is for NinjaTrader 7 or 8, and the page has Most Popular and New Additions lists. NinjaTrader’s help guide says most free add-ons from forums and other communities come as unprotected C# scripts, so you can open their code in the NinjaScript Editor.
NinjaTrader’s disclosures page says NinjaTrader does not approve or recommend vendor content listed on the Ecosystem site, and that evaluating it before you use it is up to you (checked October 2026). Use the listing to find candidates, then vet each one with the checklist below.
Developers’ free versions and trials. Some developers, us included, offer a free version of a paid add-on or a free trial. Free tools already built into NinjaTrader 8
Some tools people search for as free add-ons are already part of the platform. Check these before you download anything.
Candlestick Pattern Indicator
NinjaTrader 8’s Candlestick Pattern indicator marks a chosen pattern on your chart, which helps you learn to spot it. NinjaTrader’s NinjaScript reference lists 25 patterns, including Hammer, Doji, Morning Star and Bullish and Bearish Engulfing. Add it from the Indicators window (Ctrl+I) and pick the pattern under Properties.
Basic Charting Indicators
NinjaTrader 8 ships with more than 100 indicators, including the SMA, EMA, RSI, MACD, Stochastics, ADX, Bollinger Bands, Pivots and Prior Day OHLC, according to its help guide. Start with these, and look for a third-party version when you need settings they don’t have. VWAP is the exception, covered below.
SuperDOM
The SuperDOM is NinjaTrader’s built-in depth-of-market order-entry window: a price ladder that shows your orders at each price, in its own window beside the chart. Open it from the Control Center with New › SuperDOM (Static) or New › SuperDOM (Dynamic). NinjaTrader’s help guide says you may have the option of either a static (original SuperDOM) or a dynamic price ladder.
News Indicator
NinjaTrader 8’s indicator list has no news indicator; instead, its News window (New › News in the Control Center) shows, filters and sets alerts on real-time news. Its help guide says real-time news needs a subscription to a news service through a market data vendor or broker, and its Data by Provider table lists Kinetick and IQFeed with real-time news (checked October 2026). For scheduled economic releases marked on the chart, the User App Share lists a free economic-calendar indicator for NinjaTrader 8.
How to vet a third-party add-on before you install it
NinjaTrader’s Using 3rd Party Add-Ons help page warns that an add-on with software bugs can affect the whole NinjaTrader application, from slow or unresponsive NinjaTrader windows and slow market data to lost data connections and abrupt shutdowns, and it says to install add-ons only from trusted sources (checked October 2026). Check these first:

Updating NinjaTrader and updating an add-on are separate steps, so check add-on compatibility after a NinjaTrader update.
Add new add-ons one at a time, on a simulation account and a chart with no other third-party add-ons, so you know which one caused any change. Once an add-on passes these checks, install it: open Tools › Import › NinjaScript Add-On in the Control Center, choose the .zip file without unzipping it, and press Import. To update it later, import the new file, accept the option to replace the current version, and restart NinjaTrader. VWAP Indicator
NinjaTrader 8’s own VWAP tools are part of Order Flow+, so you have a built-in VWAP only if your NinjaTrader plan or account includes it. Does NinjaTrader have VWAP? explains the details. Other developers publish VWAP indicators for NinjaTrader 8 too, so vet any of them the same way as other add-ons.

- Copying trades and applying risk rules across several accounts
- Extra entry and exit order types placed from Chart Trader, such as close-of-bar, time-sliced or iceberg entries
- Order flow and support-and-resistance levels
- Enhanced versions of classic indicators

What add-ons exist for NinjaTrader?
Third-party NinjaTrader add-ons include indicators, automated strategies, bar types, drawing tools, add-on windows such as trade copiers and risk managers, and chart order-entry tools. Can you use third-party add-ons and indicators in NinjaTrader 8?
Yes, in NinjaTrader Desktop, as long as the add-on is built for NinjaTrader 8. NinjaTrader 7 scripts need an NT8 version from their developer. Once imported, a third-party indicator appears in the Indicators window (Ctrl+I) with the built-in ones.

Are NinjaTrader add-ons free?

How do I remove NinjaScript add-ons?
For a protected add-on, open Tools › Remove NinjaScript Assembly in the Control Center, select it, remove it, and restart NinjaTrader before you import it again (NinjaTrader help guide). If it isn’t listed there, it is most likely an open-source script: open New › NinjaScript Editor, find it in the NinjaScript Explorer, right-click it and choose Remove.
