How to Connect HalcyonTrader to NinjaTrader 8 (Rithmic)

HalcyonTrader (Halcyon Trader Funding LLC) asks you to pick a data provider at the moment you buy the account. Its help centre lists four — dxFeed, Rithmic, WealthCharts and Ironbeam — and the credentials it emails you afterwards belong to whichever one you chose. This guide covers the Rithmic path only. Credentials issued for another feed will not log in through a Rithmic connection in NinjaTrader, and Halcyon documents no way to change feeds after purchase, so that one is a conversation with their support rather than a setting in the platform.
If you did choose Rithmic, what NinjaTrader logs into is a Rithmic connection, using the credentials in the setup email Halcyon sends once the account is issued. The firm has a dedicated help-centre article, “How to Get Started with Rithmic Accounts at Halcyon Trader Funding”, but its body is a single video with no written steps — there is no firm-published text listing the connection fields or the System name to use. That matters for steps three and four below, so keep the email and the video to hand rather than guessing.
The thing that trips people up here is not NinjaTrader at all. It is the data self-certification. Halcyon states that access is fully enabled only once all agreements are completed and accepted by the data provider, and it notes that 99% of its traders elect non-professional status. Skip it and you get the most confusing possible outcome: a connection that reports itself as connected while no prices ever arrive. Complete the professional or non-professional declaration by the route your Halcyon setup email gives you before you troubleshoot anything in the platform.
One note before the steps. Halcyon does not list NinjaTrader among its platforms and publishes no NinjaTrader setup instructions. The only mention of NinjaTrader anywhere on the site is in the Terms & Conditions, which name NinjaTrader LLC among possible broker partners in the section on live brokerage approval. Confirm with Halcyon what you may use on your account before you build a workflow around it.
What HalcyonTrader issues and documents
- Four data feeds, chosen at checkout. dxFeed, Rithmic, WealthCharts and Ironbeam, which the firm’s start-trading article lists as live accounts only. Your credentials are for the one you selected, and they are per account.
- The platforms the firm names. TradeSea, which Halcyon describes on its homepage as built for Rithmic and prop firm traders; ONYX; Volumetrica with DeepCharts; ATAS and Quantower, for which the firm says the connection is included but the platform license is not; WealthCharts; the Ironbeam platform; and TradingView, documented as a front end for Ironbeam.
- Evaluations and Reward Accounts. Halcyon calls the funded stage a Reward Account, not a funded account, and both stages are simulated. After passing you sign a Trader Agreement and are upgraded. Evaluations are unlimited; active Reward Accounts are capped at three across all products.
- A separate live brokerage stage. Reached after a set number of approved rewards or a cumulative threshold, with its own credentials, a Power of Attorney and brokerage onboarding documents. Simulated balances and prior rewards do not carry across.
- No NinjaTrader documentation. The firm publishes none, and its Rithmic walkthrough is video-only, so anything specific to your account comes from your setup email or Halcyon support.
What you need before you start
- NinjaTrader Desktop, installed and updated.
- Your Halcyon setup email for the Rithmic account. Check spam and junk — the firm gives that warning explicitly in its dxFeed instructions.
- The System or gateway name shown in that email or in Halcyon’s Rithmic video. If it is not stated clearly, ask Halcyon through the Futures Dashboard rather than trying names at random; repeated failed logins help nobody.
- Your professional or non-professional self-certification completed with the data provider, by the route Halcyon gives you. Access is fully enabled only once the provider accepts it.
- Multi-Provider enabled in NinjaTrader, which needs a restart, so do it first.
- Clarity on which stage the account is at — evaluation or Reward — because that is what decides the System you select.
Connecting HalcyonTrader to NinjaTrader
1. Enable Multi-Provider and restart
Go to Tools > Settings > General, tick Multi-Provider, click OK, then close NinjaTrader completely and reopen it. This is not optional housekeeping: until Multi-Provider is on and the platform has been restarted, the Control Center’s Connections menu shows no Configure item at all, which is the single most common reason people conclude they cannot add a connection.
2. Add the stock Rithmic connection
In the Control Center, go to Connections > Configure, and from the Available list pick Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage. You will not find an entry named after HalcyonTrader, and you do not need one: the adapter is the same for every Rithmic provider, and it is the System dropdown in the next step that tells the connection where your account actually lives.
3. Match the System to your account stage
The System dropdown is what routes your login. Rithmic’s own live system list includes a dedicated HalcyonTrader system, and NinjaTrader’s stock System list has no entry by that name, so do not assume the stock Rithmic Paper Trading or Rithmic 01 entries will accept Halcyon credentials. Pair them wrongly and you get a rejection whose message tells you nothing useful — it does not say “wrong system”, it just fails. Halcyon publishes no written text naming the System for its Rithmic accounts, and its Reward Accounts are simulated as well, so do not assume that passing an evaluation moves you to a different System. Use what Halcyon’s setup email or its Rithmic video specifies for your account, and ask their support if it is not spelled out.
4. Enter the credentials and name the connection
Open the entry’s properties and type or paste the credentials Halcyon issued into NinjaTrader’s User name and Password fields, watching for a trailing space picked up when copying from the email. Because the firm publishes no written description of its Rithmic credential format, anything in your email that does not map cleanly onto the fields in front of you is a question for Halcyon rather than something to guess at. Give the connection a name you will still recognise in three months — “Halcyon Eval 50K” beats “Rithmic 2” — because that name is what appears in the Connections menu and in account selectors. Leave any field you were not given at its default.
5. Connect, then verify data before you trade
Choose the connection from Connections and watch the Control Center status turn to connected with a live data feed. Open a chart on the current active contract month and confirm prices are moving. Halcyon is firm on contract selection: trade the active month, and treat continuous symbols such as ES1! and NQ1! as charting-only rather than tradeable. Naming conventions differ between platforms, so re-check yours at each rollover. Finally, confirm the account appears in the Accounts tab with the balance you expect before you place anything.
Questions we get about HalcyonTrader on NinjaTrader
It connects, but no prices arrive
Nine times in ten this is the data agreements. Halcyon states that access is enabled only once the agreements are completed and accepted by the data provider, so finish the professional or non-professional declaration by the route given in your setup email, and check your Futures Dashboard for any self-certification or trading status declaration still outstanding.
My login is rejected and the message is useless
Work through three things in order: the System against your account stage, a character-level check of the credentials, and whether they are still current after a reset or an upgrade. Our Rithmic logon failed walkthrough covers the rest of the causes.
There is no Configure option under Connections
Multi-Provider is either unticked or was ticked without a restart. The path is Tools > Settings > General, or Tools > Options on older NinjaTrader 8 builds.
Running more than one Rithmic account
NinjaTrader Desktop runs one Rithmic connection at a time, although one connection can carry several accounts under the same login. Our Unlimited Prop Firm Connections add-on lets you connect and manage multiple Rithmic accounts at the same time, from one window, with per-connection monitoring, and it tells you which System entry your firm uses, or adds that entry to NinjaTrader’s System list when it is missing. What you may do across accounts is a matter for Halcyon’s own rules: their published trading guidelines cover automated systems and copy trading, and list the use of VPNs or tools to bypass geographic or account access restrictions among prohibited conduct, which is worth reading closely if you run NinjaTrader on a VPS. Check with the firm first.
What should I watch for during the session?
Halcyon’s rules require positions closed and orders cancelled by 4:45 PM ET, with auto-liquidation if you leave something open. Evaluations expire if not passed within 30 calendar days, and an account exceeding 250 total contracts in a single day is flagged for review. The firm also ties same-day upgrade after passing to whether the data connection chosen at purchase allows instant updates, without saying which feeds qualify — so do not plan your day around a same-day upgrade on Rithmic until Halcyon confirms it for your account.
