How to Connect Lucid Trading to NinjaTrader (Tradovate)

Lucid issues one set of Tradovate credentials that opens Tradovate, NinjaTrader and TradingView on the same CQG-fed account — but you must sign in on Tradovate's web platform first, even if you never intend to trade there.

What you need before you start

  • NinjaTrader Desktop 8, current version. If you have no NinjaTrader account yet you can still download the platform without one.
  • Your Tradovate credentials from Lucid Trading — the Tradovate username and password from your Lucid dashboard, also sent in the account email.
  • A Tradovate web sign-in, with the Prop Simulation environment selected. Lucid is explicit about this: sign in first even if you plan to trade in NinjaTrader.
These are not your Lucid Trading website login. Your lucidtrading.com account password is not the credential NinjaTrader wants. The Tradovate username and password are issued per trading account and shown in the dashboard.

Connecting Lucid Trading to NinjaTrader

  1. Step 1

Get your Tradovate credentials from Lucid Trading

Your Tradovate credentials are in the Lucid dashboard and in your account email. Copy and paste them from there — Lucid specifically warns against retyping, and typos here are the commonest cause of a failed first connection.

  2. Step 2

    Download the NinjaTrader Desktop platform

Make sure you have the current version of NinjaTrader Desktop, installed from your NinjaTrader Account Dashboard. If you do not have a NinjaTrader username and cannot sign in to the dashboard, NinjaTrader documents how to download NinjaTrader Desktop without a NinjaTrader Brokerage account. You do not need to pay for a licence to trade a prop account.

  3. Step 3

Sign in to Tradovate first, even for NinjaTrader

Go to trader.tradovate.com and log in with your Lucid credentials. Complete the CME subscriber certification once as Non-Professional, choose the Tradovate Prop Simulation environment, and confirm your account number before placing any order.

Lucid requires this even if you only ever intend to trade in NinjaTrader. Until it is done the account is not live on Tradovate's servers and NinjaTrader will refuse perfectly correct credentials.

  4. Step 4

    Log in to NinjaTrader

    A. If you do not already have a NinjaTrader account. Launch NinjaTrader Desktop and enter your Lucid Trading Tradovate username and password on the first login screen. You are connected straight away and your accounts appear under Control Center > Accounts — nothing else on this page applies to you.

    B. If you already have a NinjaTrader account. Log in with your NinjaTrader dashboard username and password instead — not your Lucid Trading credentials — then carry on below to add Lucid Trading as a second connection.

  5. Step 5

    Enable Multi-Provider

Multi-Provider lets NinjaTrader hold more than one account type at once, and it is off by default on new installs. In the Control Center go to Tools > Settings > General, tick Multi-provider, and click OK.

The Multi-provider checkbox under Tools, Settings, General in NinjaTrader

Restart the platform. The Configure button then appears on the Control Center > Connections menu — if you cannot see Configure, this step has not taken effect.

  6. Step 6

    Add the connection

Select Configure on the Connections tab. In the Available list, double-click NinjaTrader — this is the connection type that carries Tradovate prop accounts — or select it and click Add. It moves into Configured, and its properties open on the right.

  7. Step 7

Enter your credentials and set Account Type to Simulation

Paste your Lucid-issued Tradovate username and password. Set Account Type: Simulation. This is correct for funded accounts as well as evaluations — a prop account is a simulated account as far as the platform is concerned, and the firm settles the money on its own books. "Live" means a NinjaTrader Brokerage account and will not find yours. Name the connection Lucid and click OK. If the account list looks incomplete on a first-time setup, restart NinjaTrader once — it settles after a restart.

  8. Step 8

    Select your new connection

Finally, go to Control Center > Connections and pick the connection you just created. A green indicator at the bottom left means you are connected, and your Lucid Trading account appears under the Accounts tab within a few seconds.

If it will not connect

  • "Invalid credentials" on a brand-new account. The Tradovate web sign-in has not been done. Lucid accounts are inactive on Tradovate until you log in there once.
  • Connected, but no account. Account Type is Live, or the Prop Simulation environment was not selected during the web sign-in.
  • My Max Loss Limit is not showing in NinjaTrader. It will not. NinjaTrader shows balance and P&L from the data connection but has no idea what Lucid's trailing MLL is. Keep the Lucid dashboard open alongside — it refreshes every 5 to 30 minutes.
  • Charts have no data. The subscriber certification is incomplete at Tradovate.

Lucid Trading and NinjaTrader: questions we get

Does NinjaTrader show my Lucid trailing drawdown?
No, and this trips people up. NinjaTrader reports the account balance and P&L it gets over the data feed; the trailing Max Loss Limit is a Lucid-side rule the platform never sees. Run the Lucid dashboard in a second window, or use a risk tool that tracks the threshold for you.
Can I trade Lucid and another firm at once?
Yes. Lucid is a Tradovate account, and Tradovate connections are not capped — add the other firm as a second connection and both stay live.
Do I need your Unlimited Prop Firm Connections add-on?
No. That product is for running several Rithmic connections at once, and Lucid does not use Rithmic. It would do nothing for you.
Why does the same login work in TradingView and Tradovate?
Because it is one CQG-fed Tradovate account underneath. The platforms are just different front ends onto it.
