Does NinjaTrader Connect Automatically on Startup?

The short answer is no. NinjaTrader 8 has no setting that connects your broker automatically when the platform opens, and it never has. Requests for one date back to NinjaTrader 7.

Every session therefore begins the same way: open the Control Center, open the Connections menu, click your connection, wait. With one firm that is mildly tedious. With five it is a routine that takes long enough to matter, and it has to be repeated after every restart.

What people use instead

There is no way to make NinjaTrader itself connect on launch, so the workarounds all operate a level up, on Windows.

Launching the platform automatically is straightforward. A shortcut in the Windows Startup folder, or a Windows Task Scheduler entry, will open NinjaTrader after a reboot. If you go the Task Scheduler route, build in a delay of around 45 to 60 seconds so Windows services are fully up before the platform starts. This is standard practice for anyone running on a VPS, where an overnight reboot or a Windows update would otherwise leave the machine sitting at a desktop with nothing running.

Restoring your strategies is separate and is supported. NinjaTrader can restore prior state on startup, so enabled strategies come back enabled after a relaunch.

What none of this does is log you in. The platform will be open, your workspace will be loaded, your strategies may be armed, and the connection will still be sitting there waiting for a click.

Why this matters more with prop firms

The gap is an annoyance with a single account. It becomes a real cost with several, because the clicking multiplies and because prop firm logins fail in ways a single broker login usually does not. A login that has been locked broker-side, or an account whose evaluation has ended, will sit in the list looking exactly like the ones that work.

So the morning routine is not only five connections. It is five connections, one of which may quietly fail, discovered at the point you try to place an order.

Cutting the routine down

Until NinjaTrader adds the setting, the practical improvement is to reduce many clicks to one and to be told immediately which connections did not come up.
