NinjaTrader: “No such route exists”

Of all the NinjaTrader errors, this has the most reliable single cause: the platform is out of date.

Order routes are defined by the platform build. When a broker or provider changes its routing, older NinjaTrader versions carry definitions that no longer exist upstream, and any order aimed at one of them fails with this message.

The fix

Update NinjaTrader to the current release. An in-place update is usually enough. If it is not, uninstall and install the current version fresh from the official download.

Your workspaces, indicators and connection definitions live in the Documents NinjaTrader 8 folder rather than the program folder, so a reinstall does not take them with it. It is still worth copying that folder somewhere safe first, because the cost of doing so is a minute and the cost of not doing so occasionally is a weekend.

Why it appears suddenly

This error tends to arrive out of nowhere on a setup that has worked for months, which makes people look for something they changed. Usually they did not change anything. The provider did, and the platform that has been running quietly since spring is simply now too old.

Machines that never restart are the most exposed, which includes most VPS installations.

While you are updating

Two things are worth checking on the new build.

Confirm Multi-Provider mode survived the update, under Tools, Options, General. If it did not, the Configure option disappears from the Connections menu and it looks like a much bigger problem than it is.

Confirm your connections still hold their passwords. Upgrades are one of the situations in which stored credentials go missing while the connection definition remains.
