Legends Trading and NinjaTrader 8: Which Connection Your Account Carries

Legends Trading and NinjaTrader 8: Which Connection Your Account Carries

Legends Trading sells its accounts on two different connections, and which one you end up with is decided at the moment you add a plan to your cart rather than at any point afterwards. Inside the trader dashboard at dashboard.thelegendstrading.com, the shop shows a strip of connection tabs beneath the account-category tabs — Tradovate on one, Rithmic on the other — and the cart carries that choice through as a broker badge on each line item. The public marketing pages only ever list the Tradovate plans, so plenty of traders never see that the choice exists until they are already logged in and clicking through the shop.

Whichever tab you bought on, the credentials reach you the same way. Log in and open the User Account Credentials page. You will see a card headed with either the Tradovate or the Rithmic logo, followed by a username and a password, each with a copy-to-clipboard button. That logo is the most reliable answer to the question “which connection is my account actually on?” — the connection is bound to the plan you purchased, and Legends publishes no route for converting an account from one to the other later.

The firm also states a position on NinjaTrader, and it is worth reading before you set anything up. In its own purchase flow, printed in red directly above those connection tabs, Legends states that the “NinjaTrader trading platform is available exclusively for accounts with a Tradovate connection.” That is the firm’s published position, stated at the exact point where you pick Rithmic or Tradovate, and it is not ours to reinterpret. The walkthrough below covers the route Legends itself documents for NinjaTrader, using the credentials issued for a Tradovate-connection account. Whatever your card shows, confirm directly with Legends what you are permitted to run on your account before you spend an evening in the Connections dialog.

What Legends Trading issues

  • Two connections, chosen at purchase. Every plan exists in a Tradovate variant and a Rithmic variant, mirrored across all four product categories. The connection tabs live in the dashboard shop, after login, and the choice is bound to the line item the moment you add it to the cart.
  • A username and password only. Both connections are credentialed the same way, on the User Account Credentials page, with the connection’s logo shown above them.
  • NinjaTrader. The firm states that the NinjaTrader platform is available exclusively for accounts with a Tradovate connection. Its trader agreement likewise names Tradovate and NinjaTrader as the platforms it provides, and makes you responsible for the fees of any other platform or data you choose to use.
  • The account ladder. Apprentice and Elite evaluations, then the Master (sim funded) stage, with a paid Straight to Master route alongside. The connection carries through: pass on a Rithmic account and the Master account is a Rithmic one.
  • The Live Program. A separate, later stage with its own agreement, which has to be signed and returned within seven calendar days. Promotion to Live forfeits your existing sim accounts — Apprentice, Elite, Master and Elite Master — and Live funding is capped at $10,000. We have not found anything from Legends stating which connection Live accounts run on, so do not assume it matches the one you hold now.
  • Market data. The trader agreement commits the firm to paying live market-data fees through Tradovate, and puts other platform and data fees on the trader. Ask Legends what that means for your account rather than assuming data is covered.

What you need before you start

  • NinjaTrader Desktop installed, updated, and logged in to your own NinjaTrader account.
  • Your Legends dashboard login, so you can read the User Account Credentials page and see which connection your account carries.
  • A Tradovate-connection account — that is the route Legends documents for NinjaTrader, and the one the steps below follow.
  • Confirmation from Legends, ideally in writing, of what you are permitted to run on the account you hold.
  • Ten quiet minutes. One of the steps below restarts NinjaTrader, so do not do this mid-session.

Connecting Legends Trading to NinjaTrader 8

1. Establish which connection your account carries

Open the User Account Credentials page in the Legends dashboard and look at the logo on the card. If it shows Tradovate, the rest of this page applies to you. If it shows Rithmic, take the firm’s own notice at face value and raise it with Legends rather than working through the steps below. While you are on the page, note the exact username string; it is generated by the firm and easy to mistype from memory.

2. Turn on Multi-Provider and restart

In NinjaTrader 8 go to Tools > Settings > General and tick the Multi-Provider option, then close NinjaTrader completely and start it again — the setting only takes hold on a restart. If Configure is missing from the Control Center’s Connections menu when you come back, our walkthrough on a missing Configure item in the Connections menu covers what to do next.

3. Add the right connection entry

In the Control Center, choose Connections > Configure and work from the Available list on the left. The entry you want is the one called NinjaTrader. That is the entry carrying Tradovate-based prop accounts. Current builds do not list a separate Tradovate entry. There is no entry named after Legends, and there does not need to be. Select NinjaTrader and click Add.

4. Enter the credentials and set the account type

Paste the username and password from the dashboard rather than typing them — the copy buttons on the credentials card are there for exactly this. Set Account Type to Simulation, which is what Legends’ own NinjaTrader setup instructions specify and the normal setting for prop accounts, unless the firm tells you otherwise for your stage. Give the connection a name you will recognise later, then click Apply and OK.

5. Connect and check the Accounts tab

Back in the Control Center, open Connections and pick the connection you just created. Once it comes up, check the Accounts tab: your Legends account should be listed with the balance you expect for its stage. If the account is missing, or the balance is not the one you were issued, that is a question for Legends rather than something to fix in NinjaTrader.

Questions we get about Legends Trading

I bought on the wrong tab — can I switch the connection?

Legends binds the connection to the plan at the point of purchase, and we have found no published conversion path. Treat that as a question for their support team rather than something to solve in NinjaTrader.

The dashboard only gave me a username and password. Where is the rest?

That is all the credentials page exposes — a username, a password, and the logo of the connection the account was bought on. For the NinjaTrader route above, nothing else is needed.

Can I run more than one prop firm account in NinjaTrader at once?

NinjaTrader Desktop runs one Rithmic connection at a time, although one connection can carry several accounts under the same login. Separately, our Unlimited Prop Firm Connections add-on lets you connect and manage multiple Rithmic accounts at the same time, from one window, with per-connection monitoring, and it tells you which System entry your firm uses, or adds that entry to NinjaTrader’s System list when it is missing; it is not what creates any of those connections. What you are allowed to run across accounts is governed by each firm’s own terms, so read Legends’ and any other firm’s before you set anything up.

Their help centre will not load for me

The Legends knowledge base sits behind a bot-verification page, which can refuse automated fetches and sometimes ordinary browsers too. If you cannot get in, raise a ticket with the firm directly rather than relying on older articles you find cached elsewhere — some of those describe a setup that has since been superseded.

Affordable Indicators, Inc. is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rithmic, NinjaTrader, or any prop firm or broker named here; your firm’s and broker’s own terms govern how you may use your account, so check with them first.
