NinjaTrader 8.0.28.0 and Rithmic: Run Several Prop Firms on the Last 8.0 Release
NinjaTrader 8.0.28.0, released April 27, 2023, is the last release of NinjaTrader 8.0 and the last one that runs on a license key; 8.1 replaced license keys with signing in to a NinjaTrader account. Some traders never moved past it, because their license setup is built around it or because a strategy or workspace has run reliably on it for years. If that is you and you trade Rithmic prop firm accounts, two questions come up: can 8.0.28.0 hold more than one Rithmic prop firm at a time, and will your add-ons still work on it?
Both answers are yes. Unlimited Prop Firm Connections runs on 8.0.28.0 today, and so does every other Affordable Indicators product. This guide covers what is different on 8.0.28.0, what our customers actually run there, and how to set it up.
The short answer
- On its own, NinjaTrader 8.0.28.0 holds one Rithmic connection at a time, the same as 8.1.

What is different about NinjaTrader 8.0.28.0
For Rithmic connections, three differences matter.

If a prop firm’s setup guide shows the 8.1 sign-in screen or the Multi-provider setting, skip those steps on 8.0.28.0 and go straight to Connections, then Configure.
The last row is the one most 8.0.28.0 users run into. NinjaTrader’s own Rithmic prop firm guide says it is not possible to keep two Rithmic connections running at once on NinjaTrader Desktop. You may read on forums that traders with license keys from before July 15, 2014 run two, one on the original plain “Rithmic” connection and one on “Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage”; NinjaTrader stopped issuing keys for that original connection on that date, and even those accounts stop at two. What our customers run on 8.0.28.0

Firms that run their own Rithmic system
On NinjaTrader 8.1, Unlimited Prop Firm Connections adds a missing firm to NinjaTrader’s System dropdown in one click. On 8.0.28.0 that list is fixed, so the add-on does it differently: for each supported firm its Find My Firm tab shows a How to Set Up button with the exact connection steps for that firm. On 8.0.28.0, the firms it supports this way connect through the stock Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago) entry. Fourteen firms are covered on 8.0.28.0, including Lucid Trading, Tradeify and DayTraders.com, and the button only appears for those. If your firm is not covered on 8.0.28.0, ask us before you buy.

Setting it up on 8.0.28.0
- Check your version. In the Control Center open Help, then About, and confirm it reads 8.0.28.0.
- Get the 8.0.28.0 build. After you buy, open your Members Area, go to NinjaScript Downloads, then NinjaTrader 8.0.28.0, and request the build with a line about your setup. If you would rather, ask us on live chat. The 8.0.28.0 build can trail the newest 8.1 release by a version; that is expected.
- Import it in NinjaTrader through Tools, then Import, then NinjaScript Add-On, and restart NinjaTrader.
- License this PC. Open Tools, then Affordable Indicators, then Unlimited Prop Firm Connections. Enter the email you bought with, and add the NinjaTrader Machine ID it shows to your account.
- Create one connection per Rithmic login. In Connections, then Configure, add Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage, enter that firm’s Rithmic username and password, pick the System entry (or follow How to Set Up for a firm with its own system), and give the connection a name that includes the firm, such as “Lucid” or “Tradeify”.
- Connect them all from the add-on’s window, and check every account shows up in your account list.
Several trading accounts at one firm often share a single Rithmic login. You need one connection per login, not one per account.

The add-on is not a special case.
