NinjaTrader AI Strategy Builder vs AI Trading System Builder

Two different tools. How each one works, who each is for, and when NinjaTrader’s is the better fit. Checked November 6, 2026.
NinjaTrader 8.1.9.0 added an AI Strategy Builder, still in beta. Our AI Trading System Builder, inside Enhanced Chart Trader, also turns a trading idea written in plain English into something NinjaTrader can use. The two take different routes and suit different traders, so here they are side by side. Affordable Indicators is not affiliated with NinjaTrader, and NinjaTrader did not review this page.
The short version
- NinjaTrader’s AI Strategy Builder writes a NinjaScript strategy (C# code) from a chat, compiles it and runs a backtest in the Strategy Analyzer. (As of 8.1.9.0 beta.)
- AI Trading System Builder builds your idea as cards inside Enhanced Chart Trader. Add it to your chart to see where it would have fired on the bars already loaded. Signal Entry places an entry only while you have it armed.
How NinjaTrader’s AI Strategy Builder works
As of NinjaTrader 8.1.9.0 beta, from NinjaTrader’s help guide page and its 8.1.9.0 release notes, read November 6, 2026.
- You open it from the Control Center: New › AI Strategy Builder.
- Before it starts, NinjaTrader checks that all of the NinjaScript on your PC compiles. If anything fails to compile, that has to be fixed before it will generate a strategy. If you are stuck there, see AI Strategy Builder blocked by NinjaScript errors.
- You describe your strategy in plain English. The release notes say it recaps the strategy for your confirmation.
- It writes the strategy as NinjaScript code and compiles it. If it compiles, a backtest runs in the same window.
- You refine it in the same chat. Indicators or resources it cannot reach are left as placeholders in the code.
NinjaTrader describes it as a phased beta, available in English only, and says generated strategies are a starting point, not final systems: review the code and validate results before live trading. Its help guide also says the tool’s behavior and outputs may keep changing between releases.
How AI Trading System Builder works
Enhanced Chart Trader 26.10.28.1, the current release.
- On a chart with Enhanced Chart Trader, open Signal Entry and pick Build With AI from the Signal type list.
- Describe your signal in plain English. The AI builds it as cards: price, built-in indicators, any indicator plot already on your chart, crossovers, patterns, swings, and time and day filters. If part of your request is something it cannot build, it tells you which part.
- Review the cards. Change any setting by hand, or ask the AI for a change. Undo takes you back to the previous version.
- Press Add to chart. Arrows appear on the bars already loaded, so you can see where the signal would have fired. They are drawings on the chart, not trades.
- When you are ready, click Signal (Buy and/or Sell) in Signal Entry to arm it. Entries go with the Account, Quantity and ATM Strategy on your panel. Nothing is sent until you arm it, and you click Signal again to stop.
Nothing is compiled. Your signal lives inside Enhanced Chart Trader, so there is no code to fix and nothing is added to your NinjaScript. The AI runs on our server, so you don’t need an AI account or an API key.

Who each one is for
NinjaTrader’s AI Strategy Builder suits you if:
- you want a NinjaScript strategy you can open, read and edit in the NinjaScript Editor;
- you want backtest results in the Strategy Analyzer from the same place you describe the idea;
- your NinjaScript compiles cleanly, or you are happy to fix what doesn’t;
- you want to try what comes with NinjaTrader before adding anything.
AI Trading System Builder suits you if:
- you trade from the chart with Enhanced Chart Trader and want your signal on that chart;
- you’d rather change a setting by clicking a card than by editing code;
- you want entries to go only while you have armed them, and to stop with one click;
- you’d rather not deal with compiling.
When NinjaTrader’s builder is the better fit
We’d rather you pick the right tool. NinjaTrader’s is the better choice when:
- You want code. It gives you a NinjaScript strategy you can read, change, share or hand to a developer. Ours does not produce code.
- You want backtest results now. It runs a backtest in the Strategy Analyzer for you. The current release of AI Trading System Builder shows where a signal would have fired on your chart, but it does not backtest.
- Your idea needs more than our building blocks, for example another instrument or order flow. Code can express it. Our builder will tell you it could not build that part.
- You don’t use Enhanced Chart Trader. Ours runs inside it. NinjaTrader’s is part of the platform.
- You don’t want to buy anything. NinjaTrader lists no separate price for its builder (as of 8.1.9.0 beta).
- You want a strategy that runs without arming it. That is how NinjaScript strategies work. Ours is built so that you arm it.
Nothing stops you from using both.
What about NinjaTrader’s classic Strategy Builder?
NinjaTrader’s older Strategy Builder (New › Strategy Builder) uses no AI. You pick conditions and actions point and click, and it generates a NinjaScript strategy you can backtest in the Strategy Analyzer. Once you unlock its code to edit it in the NinjaScript Editor, you can no longer edit that strategy in the Strategy Builder. If you like building from menus but want the result on your chart rather than as a strategy, AI Trading System Builder also lets you build without the AI: ten starter templates, and cards you set by hand.
Questions
Does AI Trading System Builder write NinjaScript code?
No. It builds your signal as cards inside Enhanced Chart Trader. Nothing is compiled, and nothing is added to your NinjaScript.
Can it backtest?
Not in the current release. When you add a signal to your chart, arrows show where it would have fired on the bars already loaded. Those arrows are hypothetical: they are worked out after the fact and are not trades.
Do I need my own AI account or API key?
No. The AI runs on our server and is included. Fair use is up to 25 AI builds a day per customer, and editing by hand has no limit.
Does it place trades on its own?
No. Adding a signal to your chart only draws its arrows. Orders are sent only after you click Signal on Enhanced Chart Trader to arm it, and they use the Account, Quantity and ATM Strategy on your panel. Click Signal again to stop.
Will either tool keep me within my prop firm’s rules?
We can’t tell you what your firm allows, and NinjaTrader’s AI Strategy Builder page doesn’t cover prop firm rules either. Read your firm’s current written rules before you run or arm anything.
Will AI Trading System Builder tell me what to trade?
No. It builds the signal you describe and nothing else. It does not suggest setups, entries or markets.
I already own Signal Entry Orders. Do I have it?
Yes. AI Trading System Builder is the new name for Signal Entry Orders, and owners of Signal Entry Orders or Professional Chart Trader Tools have it included. Update Enhanced Chart Trader from Downloads in your Members Area, then pick Build With AI in Signal Entry.

Arrows on past bars are hypothetical. They are worked out after the fact, with the benefit of hindsight, and do not represent actual trading.
