How Do I Disable Order Notification Sounds in NinjaTrader?

This article explains how to turn off order notification sounds in both NinjaTrader Desktop and NinjaTrader Web/Mobile platforms.

Order notification sounds can be helpful, but some users prefer a quieter trading experience. Here’s how to disable them across the different NinjaTrader platforms:

Disabling Order Notification Sounds in NinjaTrader Desktop

  1. Open the Control Center in NinjaTrader Desktop.

  2. Go to Tools > Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Sounds section under General.

  4. Click the X next to each sound to disable it.

  5. Click OK, then restart NinjaTrader Desktop for changes to take effect.

Disabling Order Notifications in NinjaTrader Web and Mobile

  1. Go to Application Settings in NinjaTrader Web.

  2. Click the Preferences tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Notifications section.

  4. Toggle Order notifications off.

  5. Click Advanced Configuration to customize additional notification settings as needed.

By following these steps, you can control or completely disable order-related sounds and alerts across your NinjaTrader platforms for a more streamlined trading environment.

A few more tips

  • Menu name. In current NinjaTrader 8.1.x.x builds the menu in step 2 is labelled Tools > Settings. The Sounds section and the steps after it are the same.
  • Turn off only the sounds you do not want. Each sound is a separate entry, such as order filled, order rejected or connection lost. Many traders keep the warning sounds (a rejected order or a lost connection) and silence only the routine ones.
  • Turning a sound back on. Each entry points to a sound file. To restore one, select the entry again and pick a sound file. NinjaTrader’s own sounds are in the sounds folder inside its installation folder.
  • Mute NinjaTrader only. To silence NinjaTrader without changing its settings, open the Windows Volume mixer (right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar) and lower NinjaTrader’s volume. Other programs keep their sound.
  • Indicator and alert sounds are separate. Alerts you set up on a chart, in the Alerts window or inside an indicator’s own properties use their own sound settings, so check there if a sound continues after you turn these off.

Sound repeating after a NinjaTrader update?

Some early NinjaTrader 8.1.7.x builds had a bug where the order confirmation sound repeated or looped. NinjaTrader has fixed it, so the answer is to update NinjaTrader to its current release rather than turn the sound off. Our guide on how to update NinjaTrader walks you through it.
