How to Connect Funded Futures Family to NinjaTrader (Tradovate)

Funded Futures Family runs on the Tradovate stack, and it uses the newer NinjaTrader route: you sign in to NinjaTrader itself with the credentials FFF issued you, rather than building a connection by hand under Connections. The thing that catches people here is the last click of that sign-in — you choose Simulation, even on a funded account. Traders who have just passed an evaluation pick Live Trading instead, see no accounts, and conclude the connection failed.
What you need before you start
- Your FFF platform username and password. These are issued with your account and shown in your FFF Dashboard. They are not the email address and password you created when you signed up.
- One browser login to Tradovate with those credentials, with the agreement you are prompted with signed off. FFF files this step under their TradingView instructions, which is exactly why NinjaTrader users skip it.
- NinjaTrader 8 Desktop for Windows, from NinjaTrader’s own site. The web platform will not do this job.
Connecting Funded Futures Family to NinjaTrader
Take your credentials from the FFF Dashboard
FFF’s own documentation calls these “your FFF credentials”, and that phrasing is where most of the confusion at this firm begins. They mean the platform username and password issued with your account and displayed in the dashboard — not the login you use on fundedfuturesfamily.com. The dashboard login is an email address with a password you chose. The platform login is a username you did not choose.
Sign the Tradovate agreement first
Log in to Tradovate in a browser with those same credentials and complete the agreement it puts in front of you. FFF lists this as the first step of their TradingView instructions rather than their NinjaTrader instructions, so it is routinely missed. An unsigned agreement does not stop you logging in — it shows up later as empty charts, which sends people hunting for the wrong fault.
Install NinjaTrader 8 Desktop
FFF ask you to log in to the NinjaTrader website with your FFF credentials, then download and install the desktop application from there.
Sign in at the NinjaTrader login screen
Open NinjaTrader and enter the same FFF username and password. Type them rather than pasting them. A trailing space copied out of a dashboard field is the single most common cause of a rejected login anywhere in this stack, and it is invisible on screen.
Choose Simulation, then Launch
NinjaTrader offers you Live Trading or Simulation. Select Simulation and click Launch. This is correct for FFF evaluations and FFF funded accounts alike; Live Trading is for a retail brokerage account, which is not what a prop account is, however far through the programme you are. Your FFF accounts then load on their own, with nothing further to configure.
If your build does not show that login screen
Older NinjaTrader 8 installs add the feed manually instead. Tick Multi-Provider in Tools, then Settings, then General, restart NinjaTrader, then go to Control Center, Connections, Configure and double-click NinjaTrader in the Available list — that is the entry that carries Tradovate prop accounts, not the one labelled Tradovate. The credentials are the same ones, and Account Type is again Simulation. If you are unsure which route your install expects, update to the current NinjaTrader 8 Desktop and follow FFF’s own steps above.
If it will not connect
Before anything else, check that you did not pick Live Trading. At this firm that one choice accounts for more “it will not connect” reports than everything below put together.
- Logon failed. Usually a trailing space pasted with the password, or the website login used in place of the platform credentials from the dashboard. The Tradovate connection guide covers the rest of the causes.
- Signed in, but no accounts. Live Trading was chosen at the login screen, or the account is not currently active at FFF. See no accounts were found.
- Connected, but charts are empty. The Tradovate agreement is unsigned. Log in at Tradovate in a browser, clear the prompt, then reconnect. A blank SuperDOM with charts working is a different fault — that is the order-flow entitlement, which is separate. See connected but no data.
- Looking for a server or account-stage dropdown. There is not one on this route. FFF’s NinjaTrader steps end at Simulation and Launch, and your evaluation and funded accounts load together on their own. The “select the correct server or workspace for your account type” instruction belongs to FFF’s Tradovate app instructions, not to NinjaTrader.
- No Configure option. This only matters on the manual route, and it means Multi-Provider is switched off. See why Configure is missing.
Funded Futures Family and NinjaTrader: questions we get
Can I run Funded Futures Family next to another prop firm?
Yes, while your FFF account is on the Tradovate side. Tradovate connections are not capped, so a second Tradovate-based firm can sit alongside FFF in the same NinjaTrader without an add-on of any kind. The one-at-a-time restriction people run into is NinjaTrader’s handling of Rithmic connections, and on this route it only bites if your other firm is on Rithmic — that is what Unlimited Prop Firm Connections lifts.
One thing to know before you get there. FFF’s own Live Stage documentation gives the execution infrastructure for that stage as Rithmic, not Tradovate. A trader who reaches it is therefore on Rithmic on the FFF side too, and from that point the one-connection limit applies to FFF itself rather than only to the other firm. Everything else on this page describes the Tradovate route.
Is my dashboard login the same as my platform login?
No, and at this firm it is the most common setup mistake, partly because FFF’s own documentation uses “your FFF credentials” for both. The dashboard login is the email and password you created at sign-up. The platform login is a username and password issued to you and shown in the FFF Dashboard. NinjaTrader wants the second one.
Can I automate a strategy or run a copier on an FFF account?
Ask FFF before you do. Their bots and algorithmic trading policy states plainly that they do not permit bot or algorithmic trading, and it lists simultaneous market activity — coordinated strategies across platforms that would be hard to achieve manually — among the patterns they monitor for. An indicator that draws levels and alerts you is a different thing from a strategy that places the orders itself, but where that line falls is FFF’s call, not ours. A trade copier is a separate job again — pushing one order out to several accounts — and at this firm it is a question for their support first.
