How to Connect FundedSeat to NinjaTrader 8 (Rithmic)

FundedSeat issues Rithmic credentials, and the connection entry those credentials log into already ships with NinjaTrader Desktop. So the route exists, but FundedSeat’s platform page now names NinjaTrader only for its Live accounts, and we have not confirmed a FundedSeat evaluation or funded account logging in on a stock NinjaTrader install. What convinces people otherwise is one line in FundedSeat’s own help centre: “NinjaTrader/Tradovate is not supported at the moment.”
That is a statement about what FundedSeat supports. Their desk will not troubleshoot NinjaTrader and their setup articles will not walk you through it, so confirm with FundedSeat directly what you may use on your account. It does not mean the Rithmic username and password they issued stop working when you type them into NinjaTrader — the settings they publish for other third-party platforms already point at a Rithmic system NinjaTrader reaches. Nobody has joined the two halves up for you.
What catches people out is that FundedSeat has no entry of its own in NinjaTrader’s list. It rides a shared Rithmic gateway, so you pick the entry matching your account stage. Pick the wrong one and the logon failure looks exactly like “this firm is not supported”.
What FundedSeat supports, and what it will not help you with
Their platform list splits by the feed your account carries:
- Rithmic R Trader Pro — Rithmic’s own front end, included with the Rithmic data feed.
- Volumetrica DeepCharts — included with the dxFeed data feed.
- Tradesea — also on their list.
- Third-party over the Rithmic feed — Sierra Chart, MotiveWave, VolFix, Finamark, EdgePro X and Bookmap, which their list notes needs market depth (L2) data.
- Third-party over dxFeed — Quantower and ATAS.
They also state that a third-party platform is used at your own discretion, unsupported, and that they are not liable for errors or disruptions arising from it. NinjaTrader sits under that heading, so this route means solving your own connection problems — which the rest of this page covers.
The useful detail is in the walkthrough they do publish. For the platforms they document, FundedSeat sets System to Rithmic Paper Trading and Gateway to Chicago Area, market data on, selective mode off — the same in both their Windows and their web/mobile/macOS guides. NinjaTrader ships an entry for that same Rithmic system, and our connection catalogue records FundedSeat the same way: a shared gateway, not a named entry. That record is marked reported rather than verified, so treat the names below as a starting point, check them against what FundedSeat issued you, and ask FundedSeat if the two disagree.
What you need before you start
- The Rithmic username and password FundedSeat issued you — wherever they handed those over. These are Rithmic credentials, not your FundedSeat website login.
- The Rithmic online agreements, signed. FundedSeat is explicit that new users on the Rithmic feed sign these before connecting any third-party platform, at signup.rithmic.com/apps.html. Select non-professional when asked.
- NinjaTrader Desktop with Multi-Provider enabled. Tick it in Tools > Settings > General, then restart NinjaTrader.
- Your account stage, clear in your head. Evaluation and funded accounts sit on different Rithmic systems, and that one choice decides whether the login works.
Connecting FundedSeat to NinjaTrader
1. Sign the Rithmic agreements first
Do this before opening NinjaTrader. At signup.rithmic.com/apps.html, sign the agreements against the username FundedSeat gave you and answer non-professional to the market-data question. Unsigned agreements produce a login that fails with no explanation, and it is the first thing FundedSeat tells traders to check.
2. Turn on Multi-Provider and restart
In Tools > Settings > General, tick Multi-Provider, then close NinjaTrader completely and reopen it. Without the restart there is no Configure option in the Connections menu to click.
3. Add a Rithmic connection
Control Center > Connections > Configure. In the Available list, choose Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage and add it. FundedSeat does not appear by name and is not meant to — this is the generic Rithmic client, and its System dropdown is where your account is matched. NinjaTrader has no separate Gateway field, because each System entry already includes its region, such as Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago).
4. Choose the entry that matches your account stage
For an evaluation account, set System to Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago). Do not let the name put you off: it is the Rithmic system evaluation accounts live on, not a demo mode you are picking by mistake. It is also what FundedSeat’s own guide specifies.
For a funded account, keep Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago). FundedSeat’s funded accounts are simulated, and its own login troubleshooting names only Rithmic Paper Trading with the Chicago Area gateway. Live accounts are invitation-only, so if you are moved to one, use the System FundedSeat gives you then. Outside North America, NinjaTrader also lists Europe and Tokyo versions of the Paper Trading entry.
Getting that pairing wrong is the commonest Rithmic mistake there is, and it is the gap our Unlimited Prop Firm Connections add-on closes: it names the System entry your firm uses, or adds it to NinjaTrader’s System list when it is missing, and it lets FundedSeat stay connected alongside other Rithmic firms. To be plain, it is not what creates this connection. NinjaTrader ships the entry already, and with the two names above you can log in without anything extra.
5. Type the credentials and connect
Type the credentials rather than pasting them — a trailing space off the clipboard is a leading cause of “logon failed”, and nothing in the error says so. Save, then Control Center > Connections and pick the connection you just made. Your FundedSeat account should appear in the Accounts tab within seconds.
If it will not connect
- Logon failed, instantly. Usually the wrong System for your stage, an unsigned Rithmic agreement, or a stray space in a pasted credential. Work through the causes of a Rithmic logon failure before assuming the account is broken.
- Logon failed on a brand-new account. Rithmic only processes new account requests in its service hours, so a request raised outside them waits. Try again next session before changing settings.
- It connects, but no accounts were found. The credentials authenticated against a system your account does not live on. Check that System is Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago), the only System FundedSeat names.
- Connected but no data. Charts stay empty when the Rithmic market-data agreement is not in place for your username — go back to signup.rithmic.com/apps.html and check it was signed against the username FundedSeat issued, as non-professional. Depth-based tools need the L2 entitlement on top of that, which FundedSeat’s platform notes flag separately.
- Session count exceeded. Something else already holds your Rithmic login, usually R Trader Pro still running. Close it and reconnect; detail in Rithmic session count exceeded.
- Everything fails at once. Check whether Rithmic is down or it is your connection before rebuilding anything.
FundedSeat and NinjaTrader: questions we get
FundedSeat says NinjaTrader is not supported. Am I doing something I should not?
Their statement sets out what they support. FundedSeat’s published position on third-party platforms is that you use them at your own discretion, without their support and without their liability, and “NinjaTrader/Tradovate is not supported at the moment” sits inside that policy. In practice, expect no help from their desk on a NinjaTrader problem. For certainty about your own account, ask FundedSeat rather than a review site — several list front ends and feeds that do not appear on FundedSeat’s own list.
Can I run FundedSeat next to another prop firm?
Not out of the box. NinjaTrader holds one Rithmic connection at a time, so it refuses a second Rithmic firm’s connection while the first one is running. Unlimited Prop Firm Connections lets you keep both live in one Control Center; the background is in how to run multiple Rithmic connections in NinjaTrader 8. Pushing one order into several accounts is a different job — see the trade copier.
Will my NinjaTrader indicators run on a FundedSeat account?
Yes, and that is the whole reason to bother. Once the connection is live you are in NinjaTrader proper, so NinjaScript indicators, strategies and your chart templates run against FundedSeat’s feed as they would anywhere else. Watch market depth: anything reading the order book needs the L2 entitlement, separate from the ordinary price feed.
